Book Club – “Last of the Mohicans” 10/6-27

Book Club – “Last of the Mohicans” – Every Friday in October from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

Do you enjoy reading and discussing historical books?  Want to learn more about how and why we think of the American frontier in the way that we do?  Join us for our first series of the Fort Loudoun Book Club as we read Last of the Mohicans, one of the most influential works of fiction in American history.  We will discuss the real historical events which inspired Cooper to write his work, the impact of the changing frontier as Cooper knew it, and how the story of Last of the Mohicans has left a unique image of the American past in us as modern readers.

We will meet every Friday in October from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Visitor Center, and discuss a different portion of the book.
Oct. 6:  Chapters 1-8
Oct. 13:  Chapters 9-18
Oct. 20:  Chapters 19-24
Oct. 27:  Chapters 25-33

The cost is $5 per person to participate, and you may purchase a copy of the book in the park visitor center if you don’t already have a copy.  If you have any questions, feel free to call the park office at (423) 420-2331 or e-mail Ranger Gamble at joseph.gamble@tn.gov.
