Discover the Ocoee River – Saturday, July 15 at Hiwassee/Ocoee State Park (9:00am to 10:00am).

Have you ever wanted to learn about what makes the Ocoee River so special?

If you answered “yes”, then it is time to grab your Indiana Jones hat and join Ranger Jeremy! This unique and short program will take us thru the incredible history of the Ocoee River.  After this program, you will be invited to conduct a self-guided tour of the Caney Creek Village. If you decide to paddle across the river to this location, you will be able to examine some of the ruins from the village that once flourished there. It is optional to explore the village; however, a ranger will not be present.

REQUIRMENTS for those who want to paddle across to explore the Caney Creek Village:

Each participant will need to possess the physical capability to navigate and climb up a steep, undeveloped shoreline.

Each participant will need to be able to skillfully operate/paddle their own personal watercraft without aid (.25 mile upriver).

Each participant will be required to wear a Class III or greater Coast Guard approved life jacket while in the water.

Sturdy footwear is a must, also bring whatever gear/clothes that would make your journey comfortable and safe.
